Favourite Stand-Up Comedians

George Carlin

A legend in stand-up. Some of my PFs (personal fav)

"I use the F-word in my e-mails, and the software on my hard drive is hardcore, no soft porn"

"I tried to get a job as a gynecologist, but....couldn't find an opening."

"I always feel sorry for homeless gay people. They have no closet to come out of."

"I've begun worshipping the sun for a number of reasons. First of all, unlike some other gods I could mention, I can see the sun. It's there for me every day. And the things it brings me are quite apparent all the time: heat, light, food, a lovely day. There's no mystery, no one asks for money, I don't have to dress up, and there's no boring pageantry. And interestingly enough, I have found that the prayers I offer to the sun and the prayers I formerly offered to "God" are all answered at about the same 50-percent rate."

Pablo Francisco

Very good miming techniques with sound effects. Gotta see to believe it. His Latino jokes will kill u. hur hur.

Russel Peters

Racist jokes at its very best.

Dane Cook

Action-packed style attracts the younger crowd. Very offensive verbally but i like, heee hee

Superb Films of Recent Times

Notice i mentioned films, not movies? There is a big diff.

Films are extended video clips that cause "extreme" emotional or after-thought effects. They leave an impact on your perspective on various issues that wud be too long to detail. Often these films enjoy cult status that lasts for a long long long long time. Sometimes they reflect the stark reality we face, coercing us to think and reflect our personal view with respect to the film. At the end, a good film wud be one tt sets viewers to muse over the story plot and use it to reflect upon his life. Thus interpreting the story from his own perspective with healthy dosages of food for thought.

As for movies, well thay are just a bunch of video clips made for the sake of making that only serves to determine if the viewer has justified his movie ticket price. full stop.

Here is a short list of some films i liked. FLIXSTER is sooooo movie-ised.

1. A Clockwork Orange

-Is goodness by nature or by choice?
-i like the protagonist's make-up. FWAH damn cool sia.
-gimme Kubrick's film anytime

2.Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Original)

A 1971 film adaptation of the book. The sets and all looks outdated and cheesy. But films are all abt the chemistry of the actors. Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka was quirky and witty. pretty hard to compare with J Depp coz the two adaptations focus on different themes mainly due to Tim Burton's weird portrayal of directing films. Original Charlie puts in a sincere performance. Somewhat can feel the innocence abt him.

3. Johnny Depp's Films

wad can i say? i'm a fan of his. Here is a short list of it

- Edward Sicissorhands
- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
- Sleepy Hollow
- Blow
- Pirates of the Carribean
- Once Upon a Time in Mexico
- Secret Window
- Finding Neverland
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Corpse Bride
- Chocolat

4. The Exorcist

was more interested abt the "based on a true story" bit. Read all abt it here : http://73183.shoutboxes.com/go/?u=http://www.strangemag.com/exorcistpage1.html

5. Beetlejuice

cant remember much of it. but left mi wondering abt the underworld.
only remember michael keaton turn from batman to beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetle juiiiiiice.

6. The Crow

Said to be Brandon Lee's best performance. What attracted me more was the gothic make-up and supposed bullet shot that killed Lee shown on screen. Tat kind of love story laced with dark gothic elements is freaking cool. FWAH.

7. V for Vendentta

It pretty much reminds me of The Crow in some fight scenes. But this political satire reflects much on our present local society, rite??? The elements are so similar. Go figure it out.

8. Soong Sisters

B4 u accuse me of cheena-hood, here is one film that i watched 3 times over a span of 5 years. Twice on late nite channels on saturday nights and once here in germany. borrowed the DVD from my chinese fren.

9. Lee Ang's Films

gotta credit this guy. one of the talented directors i admire. I realise his film mostly consist of gay elements that is not frequently discussed in Chinese society. Credit him for being able to portray certain issues with such subtleness. A list of films i watched:

- 飲食男女(1994)
- 喜宴 (1993)
- 推手 (1992)
- 臥虎藏龍 (2000)

10. City of God

very much like 無間道. only difference is it is set in Brazil. Graphic portrayals of violence that leaves u shocked. shocked as in mind-numbing and unable to de-register the scene from ya mind for several days.

11. Final Destination 1, 2

ok these are considered movies, but the effects of impaling and other freak accidents are shocking too. ever freak scence leaves u wincing and letting out wtf pahrses.

12. Tarantino's films

has this idiosyncratic trademarks in his films that are pretty amusing.

- Pulp Fiction
- Kill Bill 1, 2

13, Butterfly Effect

FWAH. this kind of time travel films leaves my mind in a mess at times. seriously got mi to look on chaos theory and subseqently lead mi to the Erdős number and den Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Interesting stuff.
