As the clock ticks towards 6pm today, the world awaits for the Greatest Show held in the world. Some called it the Beautiful Game, some dismiss it as long gone as it has degenerate to form money and power as its basis of existence. Nevetheless, it still captures people's imagination of skills and tatics known to the layman who dare dream the impossible.
The office bristles with transparent excitment. Everyone (or every male colleague) is distracted. Each one surfing through tons of infomation on the Web to keep himself updated on the latest by each minute. Every minute infomation consist the slightest details of what the outcome may be. Constant checks on profiles and injury updates were the norm as the clock ticks. Some hoping for a dramatice change of luck. Some hoping for the worst of luck bestowed on key figures. My colleague of late thirties, a father of 3 kids, hollered "Deutschland" and bang his table rhythmically every half an hour. He is excited as a kid. His office walls once hung with construction site maps and technical maps are now replaced with a huge piece of paper printed with the groupings and knockout stages.
The other offices were more subtle. But the impending anticipation for the Opening Match is overwhelming. Female colleagues, as young as my mum, were well versed and knowledgeable in the rules of the game. The passion they show for their national team are commendable. They speak of the members like they were their sons! Commenting on the tatics certain players shud observe is mind boggling for anyone who come from an island or penisula of women who laugh off football as a silly game with 22 ppl chasing a ball. The women von mein Heimatland wud continue to argue that is actually 23 ppl chasing the ball instead of 22. But they never got it rite. One thing they do noe is never ask which team is beckham playing for when the guys are watching a match between brazil and holland. Questions like those can spoil the atmospehere, probalbly a potential quarrel.
In less than 3 hours, The World's Greatest Show is about to start. I rooting for an upset to make my life interesting. :)
Viel Spaß!
